Welcome to a Fair Action’s webinar on waste industry, overproduction, and the fashion industry’s responsibility

Fashion waste has long been a discourse since the textile waste law was implemented in Januari 2025. Since then, there has been higher awareness of the enormous textile waste the fashion industry produces. This seminar focuses on the real cause of waste problem- overproduction and the solutions forward.

The fashion industry is facing a decisive shift. The new legislation on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for textiles aims to contribute to more sustainable textile waste management — but is it enough to address the real core issue: overproduction?

Interest in circular business models is growing, and the second-hand market is expanding. At the same time, the influx of new garments continues at a rapid pace, driven by business models built on fast fashion, low quality, and short-lived trends.

Exports of used clothing to countries in the Global South are increasing — yet markets there are also becoming saturated, and large volumes of textiles risk ending up in landfills or in nature.

Who ultimately bears the responsibility for reducing overproduction — companies, consumers, or policymakers?
